The key role of The Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel is to foster research, development and technology transfer in the textile and clothing industry. This will help to sharpen Hong Kong's competitive edge in the global textile market. It has been five years since HKRITA was established. We have made good progress. Over 35 projects have been completed with a total funding of $92 milion. We have another 16 projects in the pipeline for which $65 million has been provided. As projects come to fruition, priority must be given to commercialising research deliverables so as to benefit the industry. A dedicated Business Development team in HKRITA has been set up recently for this purpose. Hong Kong remains a top player in the global textile industry. To retain our cutting edge, we need to continue to capitalise on new technology. Hence the need for on-going research - HKRITA will continue to identify new projects in consultation with our industry partners. Harry Lee Chariman |

HKRITA was established in April 2006. We are Hong Kong’s premier research and development centre on textiles and apparel. To mark our 5th Anniversary we held an Innovation and Technology Symposium with the theme "Partnership leads to Success". We shall continue to enhance communication with the industry, research organisations and trade associations on all matters of mutual interest concerning the textiles and apparel industry. Our website has just been revamped. We aim to update our readers and the industry on our research projects, opportunities to seek licenses to adopt the latest technology, provide our members with news and activities as well as provide a forum for the exchange of views.
