Intelligent Impact Protectors based on 3D Auxetic Fabrics

Impact protectors are special materials for energy absorption and/or impact spreading which can be integrated or inserted into protective garments or equipment for protecting the human body from impact strokes, blows or falls. Different kinds of impact protectors have been widely used in sports such as motorcycling, cycling, horse riding, skiing, skating, skateboarding and snowboarding where participants may suffer from traumatic injuries, as well as contact sports such as rugby, hockey, basketball, football, handball and wrestling. The Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel commercialised four research deliverables for industry application in the last quarter of 2013:
  • RFID-based Apparel Management Expert System integrates the real time production data captured with existing RFID system and adopts artificial intelligence techniques to generate effective and efficient solutions for operator task allocation and production line balancing of apparel manufacturers.
  • Functional Elastic Tapes for Rehabilitation provides an easy peeling and easy to clean patterned viscoelastic tape which is reusable with a micro-nano structure surface...

We are pleased to welcome two new staff members.

Ms Ling Lee, Project Officer, treasures the opportunity to work in HKRITA and says "this job can enrich my knowledge of innovative technology. I am excited to meet with the new challenges ahead and hope to contribute my experience in textile merchandising to the centre."

Working as Administrative Assistant in HKRITA is the first job to Mr Kenny Hui after his tertiary graduation. Sharing his thoughts with us, Kenny says that "it is my honour to be a part of the HKRITA family. I will try my best to learn from and support my colleagues. My personality matches the requirements of this job, and I'm sure that I shall enjoy working in HKRITA".
