Plasma treatment technology for textiles industry
|
 |
Since the introduction of plasma technology in the 1960s, the industrial applications of low-pressure and low-temperature plasma were mainly in microelectronic etching. In the 1980s, plasma technology also applied to other material surface treatment, especially in metals and chemical polymers. Due to high restriction in the control of chemical finishing on textile materials, the new and innovative textile treatments are demanded. In this regard, plasma technology shows distinct merits due to its environmental friendly and better treatment results. Presently, research institutions are applying plasma technology in textile processing......

Work Integrated Education” Programme
In pursuit of becoming a centre of excellence in research, development and technology transfer in fashion and textile technologies, HKRITA understands the importance for the industry to cultivate potential talent for its development in the future. We have, therefore, joined the “Work Integrated Education” Programme of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) since July 2006 to provide internship training for students.
Last year, two students from the Institute of Textile Clothing and Department of Computing completed the programme at HKRITA and two others have joined the HKRITA family this semester. We hope that the work-based learning experience can help students develop some basic skills that will enhanced their knowledge in the fashion and textiles technologies and benefit the development of their profession in the future.

Monique, a student intern who successfully completed the programme this year in HKRITA has the following comments, “Work-Integrated Education Programme is a compulsory training course for every PolyU student. To complete this programme, I joined HKRITA as an intern in February 2007. I got the opportunity to participate in various research and development (R&D) and marketing activities, such as the Technology Symposium for Textile and Apparel and the Hong Kong Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2008. |
The experience advanced my knowledge in textiles technology and improved my communication and problem-solving skills. To me, it is a valuable experience to work in HKRITA. With the skills acquired, I become more confident and competent now.”
