Trial: A Modern Integrated Compression Orthesis for Improving Haemodynamics Efficacy and Preventing Osteoarthritis of Lower Extremities (Trial- Adaptive and Customized Compression Stockings for the Elderly)

Parent project: A Modern Integrated Compression Orthesis for Improving Haemodynamics Efficacy and Preventing Osteoarthritis of Lower Extremities ( ITP/049/14TI ) The research team will collaborate with Tung Wah Group of Hospital to conduct the wear trials by using the developed compression stocking prototypes/samples. A total of 90 elderly subjects will be recruited. Anthropometry and clinical screening will be carried out to obtain their leg dimensional size and leg healthy data, including classify size categories, customized or not, and severity of chronic venous insufficiency symptoms. Two types of compression stockings samples will be developed for the elderly's general use and specific use, including,(1) Adaptive compression stockings & (2) Customized compression stocking. The aim of this public trial is to apply the elastic compression materials, medical-grade 3D seamless knitting technology and specially designed laid-in structures (“Incudo” stitches) developed by the parent project into adaptive compression stockings and customized compression stockings for the elderly, as to improve blood circulation of their lower limbs and to improve leg comfort, motion, health and quality of life. The objectives of the project are: -To design the adaptive and comfort pressure dosage for the elderly users; -To develop fitting-sized compression stockings for the elderly using the developed 3D weft knitting techniques; -To develop a customized fabrication system for the elderly-used compression stockings; -To buildup compression stocking product specification and usage instruction for the elderly users.
