Development of Fabric Structure Analysis and Appearance Evaluation System

In this project we will develop two complementary parts of a system: the first part is the fabric analysis module for weave structure identification including fabric density, weave pattern, yarn thickness and colour sorting; the second part is the appearance evaluation module for knit fabric including dimensional change, spirality and hairiness; These three parts have numerous potential applications for structure analysis, appearance evaluation, quality control and product design. Image processing, pattern recognition and artificial intelligence techniques are applied for digitalization, feature extraction and classification. Weave analysis module can contribute the quick prototyping of woven farbics; appearance evaluation module provides an objective tool for the knit fabric appearance evaluation during finishing process.
