Technology License Signed with Comfort Me to Develop Comfortable Mastectomy Bra
The Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA) and
Comfort Me signed a technology licensing agreement in November 2023,
marking the first commercial achievement of the project “Developing a Customised Comfort Bra to Aid Recovery from Mastectomy”. This research project has developed comfortable, moisture-wicking, and
breathable bras and prostheses tailored to the individual needs of breast
cancer survivors. With lower production costs compared to similar products
in Europe and the US, it has great market potential. The project also
received a Gold Medal at the Special Edition 2022 Inventions Geneva
Evaluation Days.
Comfort Me is a local social enterprise dedicated to providing affordable
and suitable underwear products, such as comfortable recovery bras, for
the low-income groups and people in need. As a sponsor of the research
project, Comfort Me assisted in recruiting breast cancer survivors to
participate in the R&D process, and facilitating the research team in
designing bras that better fit the users. In March 2023, Comfort Me and
HKRITA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the
commercialisation of the recovery bras. With the official signing of the
technology licensing agreement in November, Comfort Me will apply the
technology in its products to benefit a larger population of breast cancer
survivors.

The mastectomy bras and prostheses are designed to be more comfortable
and well-fitting than imported products, catering specifically to the
body shapes of Asian women
