Duties

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Director, Project and Product Development will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Lead and oversee the R&D Project Management Section;
  • Review and drive the R&D roadmap, to proactively identify, assess, and prioritise project proposals; to ensure robust vetting for submission to the Technology Committee and full compliance with ITC guidelines and R&D project agreement requirements;
  • Contribute to policy formulation and draft papers pertaining to R&D subjects;
  • Ensure the provision of comprehensive data, analysis, and projections to support annual estimates and other submissions to the ITC;
  • Work closely with the Research Section and the Business Development Division to facilitate the submission of the project proposal to the Technology Committee, and successful downstream commercialisation of R&D projects;
  • Develop and lead product development strategies aligned with the institute’s business objectives;
  • Oversee the product development lifecycle, from ideation to post-launch optimisation, setting clear priorities and milestones;
  • Support the commercialisation team to identify, evaluate and prioritise R&D projects to transit from research to viable products or solutions;
  • Build and sustain strategic partnerships with universities, research institutes, industry stakeholders, and trade organizations, with a strong focus on driving collaboration across the PRC and key international markets; and
  • Undertake any other duties as assigned by the CEO.


Requirements

  • A PhD degree or master’s degree in Textile and Clothing, Chemistry, Engineering or a related discipline, preferably with applied research or product development experience;
  • At least 15 years’ work experience in the fields of textile and clothing and/ or relevant experience in research, of which 10 years’ is at management level;
  • Proven track record in driving project development and management, end-to-end product development and successful commercialisation of R&D outcomes;
  • Excellent academic, commercial and industry network globally;
  • Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and influencing skills; and
  • A good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese

Salary offered will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. An initial 2-year contract will be offered to the successful candidate of the post. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
