Trial: High Performance Advanced Materials for Textile and Apparels (Anti-mos Police Uniform)

"Parent Project: GHS/088/04 (High Performance Advanced Materials for Textile and Apparels) Project Aim: Mosquito is referred to as one of the world's deadilest insect in terms of the amount of death caused each year by diseases spread by mosquito bites. It is known to spread malaria(one of the world leading causes of death), West Nile virus, yellow fever, dengue, encephalitis, filariasis and etc. This project aims to produce clothing product capable to effectively protect wearers from mosquito and various insect bites, that is of high performance and long lasting durability, especially useful for outdoor activities, such as for police officers from the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) who patrols at rural areas. The garment is expected to effectively repell mosquitoes and common outdoor insects such as ticks, ants, chiggers, fleas, which implies lowering risks of the spread of diseases and physcial discomfort brought by these insect bites. Benefits of this project will be wide spread, applicable to all sectors where worker's job require outdoor exposure to insects, many categories of clothing products, inclusive but not limited to activewear, kidswear, outdoor gear and etc. Technological optimization works and testing methods that accurately reflect today's wearing condition are structured into this project to accurately assess the technology performance in today's environment. Project objectives: 1.To produce a field tested and laboratory proven mosquito/ insect repellent garment, with good wash durability (30 wash cycles) 2. To produce a repellent performance booster to prolong the repellent function, in the form of additive agent to common home laundry method"
