Solid State Polymerization of PET and PLA for Properties Enhancement

The presently proposed project is aimed to develop a solid state polymerization process and to identify the conditions of reaction parameters for the enhancement or upgrade of fundamental properties, i.e. molecular weight or intrinsic viscosity for two important polymeric textile materials, i.e. PET and PLA. The proposed project has strong associations with many HKRITA projects relating to biological and chemical recycling of textile materials. The deliverables of this project will provide the necessary know-hows for enhancing the fundamental properties of the polymeric materials, hence facilitating subsequent melt spinning.
