This Public Sector Trial Scheme (PSTS) project is based on the key technology developed from the parent project “High Performance Sportswear and Device (Phase II)” in which a systematic high performance sportswear development system was developed. The system includes 1) Identify biomedical, physiological, and biomechanical requirements of athletes during sports activity; 2) Translate the requirements into fabric and garment physical properties specifications; 3) Conduct product design according to the requirements; 4) Select the optimized materials and engineer the product with proper manufacturing technology; and 5) Evaluate the performance by wear trial.
This prototype project will apply the high performance sportswear and devices development technology from the parent project, utilize the method and extend the application from garments to another textile product including compression device, compression pants, and on-field wear.
The PSTS would focus on the sports of Tenpin Bowling, Rugby Sevens, Rowing, and Track & Field. They would have other special requirements in terms of biomechanical needs, biomedical needs, and physiological comfort. The project would consider the needs from these sports to translate the needs into product specification, select the suitable potential materials, manufacture the product with the requirements, and finally trial the prototypes performances. A technical report of using the technology to produce cushion products which could fulfil the needs of elite and junior athletes will be included in this project.
The success of this PSTS project will demonstrate how to apply the high performance sportswear and devices development technology to produce products fulfilling the needs of Tenpin Bowling, Rugby Sevens, Rowing, and Track & Field sports activities and different users need. This project is not limited to benefit the team of Tenpin Bowling, Rugby Sevens, Rowing, and Track & Field of HKSI.
