The project builds upon the platform laid out by Phase I, and aims to enhance the system by reducing manpower requirements, enable better quality and higher variety of products to be produced, improve operability and upgrade customer experience to aid future commercialization. The proposed system features vision detection for fiber opening consistencies and automatic recirculation of unopened fibers back to upstream for further opening process, this enables the target manpower reduction by 40%. Moreover addition of ring-spinning process is proposed to increase the product variety and quality. To improve production efficiency, enhanced in-process data measurement and collection will enable development of machine learning algorithms to enable better control of produced yarn properties and help predict the optimal knit settings to be employed. A produced to order system utilizing 3D body scanner output data is also proposed to upgrade consumer experience.
