Biometric and Biosensory Intelligent Tight Fit Garment System

Tight Fit Sportswear

This project aims to develop a biometric and biosensing intelligent wearable clothing system. Using advanced knitting technology, the newly designed microfluidic sweat transducers, skin moisture sensors, data acquisition and controller modules will be ergonomically integrated with a functional flexible tight-fit sportswear, to form a new Biometric and Biosensory Intelligent Tight Fit Garment (BBIG) system, to realize real time test, monitor and diagnosis of body moisture/sweat status (skin water content, sweat sodium ion content, and skin pH value) under “sweating” and “non-sweating” conditions in different zones of the active human body.

Sweat monitoring is a non-invasive and safe analysis to human health. Wearable sweat monitor is attracting attention of high-tech industries and emerging smart markets, but it is currently limited to wristbands or partial patches at individual sites and no commercial product is available. The BBIG system will indicate athlete's health status, such as dehydration, swelling, and physical status, etc., and will provide an innovative “body fluid” smart wearable modality for daily health monitoring and protection, which is promising to fill in the gap and further extend technical textile industry to wide applications in public health and service domains.
