Trial: A Modern Integrated Compression Orthesis for Improving Haemodynamics Efficacy and Preventing Osteoarthritis of Lower Extremities (Trial- Adaptive and Customized Compression Stockings for the Elderly)

Parent project: A Modern Integrated Compression Orthesis for Improving Haemodynamics Efficacy and Preventing Osteoarthritis of Lower Extremities (ITP/049/14TI)

This is a wear trial under the collaboration with Tung Wah Group of Hospitals on the developed compression stocking prototypes. We developed two types of compressions stockings (adaptive and customized) for the elderly’s general and specific use. Through anthropometry and clinical screening, we obtained leg data from 90 elderly, including their leg dimensional size, classify size categories, customized or not, and severity of chronic venous insufficiency symptoms and invited them to participate the trial.

The aim of this public trial is to design the adaptive and comfort pressure dosage for the elderly users, to develop fitting-sized compression stockings and its customized fabrication system, and to set product specification and usage instruction. It includes the application of elastic compression materials, medical-grade 3D seamless knitting technology and specially designed laid-in structures (“Incudo” stitches) developed by the parent project. It is expected that the products can improve blood circulation of their lower limbs and to improve leg comfort, motion, health and quality of life.
