Elastomeric Fibre Separation by a Biosolvent Dissolution Method

Elastomeric Fibre Separation

The project aims to develop a biosolvent dissolution method for removing spandex from the following types of woven/knitted blends:

PET, Spandex (less or equal to 25%)
Nylon, Spandex ( less or equal to 25%)
Cotton, Spandex (less or equal to 25%)

Optimize the conditions of parameters for achieving a target separation efficiency of spandex ≥ 95%.
Characterize the molecular weight of the PET, nylon and cotton recovered.
Investigate the recovery method of the biosolvent, e.g. vacuum evaporation.
Estimate the operating cost and perform sustainability impact assessment.
