Flexible Loop Structure Technology

This new 3D printed flexible loop stitching technology has been developed by HKRITA, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and InLab Innovation to produce stretchable materials for furniture components, in a further demonstration of their close collaboration. It consists of a knitting structure commonly used in textile production but rarely found in furniture component manufacturing which can overcome the drawbacks faced by the conventional industry and extend the application of 3D printing technology in furniture manufacturing. Additionally, the loop stitches help reduce waste materials by up to 50% compared to the conventional production method, without weakening the object or compromising its integrity. In addition to furniture components, this technology can also be applied to the production of soft goods such as bags and midsoles of footwear.
