Application of Foam Dyeing Technology for Developing Colour Wash-out Effect on Cotton Knitted Fabric
The proposed project is to develop a novel surface dyeing technology for cotton knitted fabrics. The surface dyed cotton knitted fabric will achieve the unique wash-out effect by garment washing to make the wash-out T-shirts that are in fashion in the global market. The following major objectives will be achieved:
(1) To formulate reactive dye-foam solutions, and control their stability.
(2) To study the dyeing properties of the reactive dye-foam solutions on cotton knits to achieve the surface dyeing effect.
(3) To study the garment washing method to obtain the washed out effect with partial white fiber exposed which showing the stereo looking effect.
The wash-out cotton knitted T-shirts are in fashion in the global market. However, it is difficult to obtain the jean-like wash-out effect since most cotton knitted fabrics are dyed with overflow dyeing machines that the fabric are full penetrated by dyes. This research project would be a breakthrough of that there is not a successful dyeing method applied on cotton knits to achieve the surface dyeing effect at this moment. This research will further develop the advantages of the energy saving of foam dyeing technology.
