Development of Intelligent Impact Protectors Based on 3D Auxetic Fabrics

The proposed project aims to develop intelligent impact protectors used for protecting human body from impact stroke, blows or falls. These protectors will be made from specially developed 3D auxetic spacer fabrics which become rigid under impact and become flexible again after impact. These spacer fabrics will be knitted with PTT elastic fibers and other mono- and multi- filaments and finished with impact hardening fluids. The new protectors will overcome shortcomings such as relatively low protection capacity, very poor comfort property and difficulty of care, of currently used foams and textile materials, and will provide superior protection performance, outstanding comfort, flexibility and ease of care. The protectors to be developed in this project will mainly be used in sport protective clothing and equipment as well as medical devices (hip protectors), etc.
