Feasibility Study on Low Pressure Plasma Assisted Dyeing Process with Both Inorganic and Organic Dyestuff for Textile Products

In order to reduce or eliminate effluent waste and water consumption, it is proposed to evaluate the feasibility of using low pressure vessel plasma assisted dyeing technique to replace the traditional wet process. This new process could reduce significantly the chemicals, the energy and the subsequent waste treatment cost. In this new process, the dyestuff will be evapourized and then deposited onto the fabric by the plasma assisted device. Both inorganic colourized oxides materials (e.g. the TiO and TiN composite) and organic dyes (e.g. the disperse dye, indigo dye or vat dye) will be selected for evaluation under this project. The mixing effect of inorganic and organic dyestuff will also be investigated. The feasibility test will be conducted based on the modification of the existing physical vapour deposition (PVD) equipment and additional designed reel to reel unit.
