Multi-functional Uniform (anti-mosquito)

This project aims to produce clothing product capable to effectively protect wearers from mosquito and various insect bites, that is of high performance and long-lasting durability, especially useful for outdoor activities, such as for police officers from the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) who patrols at rural areas. The garment is expected to effectively repel mosquitoes and common outdoor insects such as ticks, ants, chiggers, fleas, which implies lowering risks of the spread of diseases and physical discomfort brought by these insect bites.

As mosquito is referred to as one of the world's deadliest insect in terms of the amount of death caused each year by diseases spread by mosquito bites for spreading malaria, West Nile virus, yellow fever, dengue, encephalitis, filariasis and other diseases, this project has widespread benefits which are applicable to all sectors where worker's job require outdoor exposure to insects, as well as the production of various clothing products, inclusive but not limited to activewear, kidswear, outdoor gear and etc.

Application

Advanced evaluation systems developed by HKRITA or the research institutes such as Fabric Touch Tester, CAD Simulation System, Walter™ Sweating Manikin and Climatic Chamber were applied to provide accurate data simulating human body’s sensory responses to the fabric or external environment. Addition to the production of uniforms, some projects also lay down a set of technical specification for the departments’ further purchase.

HKRITA once worked with the Correctional Services Department, Fire Services Department, Marine Police and Food and Environmental Hygiene Department to develop their uniform with consideration of their unique work environments respectively. In these projects, a series of meticulous tests, analysis and evaluation on functions like tensile strength, waterproof and windproof were conducted to select the most suitable fabric.
