Development of a Problem Solving Model for the Hong Kong Textiles and Clothing Industries

The Textiles and Clothing Industry faced the problems of long manufacturing cycle time, resources wastage, and unsatisfactory inventory level. All these problems slow down the productivities and increase the production cost. To collect ideas from industries, HKRITA met five enterprisers, all of them show the needs of advance management tools for productive improvement. Under the severe worldwide competition, their goal is to increase production efficiency to fulfill customer needs in order to get more orders. In view of these, Clothing Industry Training Authority to provide a problem solving model, which using process improvement methodology and tools, such as Six Sigma, to help the industry to eliminate the above problems. This project aims to develop real application models for common trade practice from helping the pilot companies to implement the statistical techniques and quality tools, in order to help the company to reduce cost, defects and cycle-time, in other words, to improve quality and productivity. Project team will coach the pilot companies to implement these problem solving techniques, a Knowledge Management for Statistical Process Control Work-flow software to show how to use the statistical techniques and capture the data for analysis, in order to give a clear guideline to the industry.
