Solvent-assisted Dyeing of Cotton Fibre – a Laboratory-scale Study

Cotton fabric by solvent-assisted dye
Cotton Fabric By Solvent Assisted Dye
This project will explore the solution of using solvents as a medium for assisting textile wet processing with focus on cotton fibre dyeing which involves using of large amount of water and chemicals. The objectives of this project are: (i) To study the suitability of solvent(s) and dye(s) to establish the solvent-assisted dyeing systems for cotton fibre; (ii) To study the dyeing method of the solvent-assisted dyeing systems for cotton fibre; and (iii) To study the dyeing properties of the solvent-assisted dyeing systems for cotton fibre. It is hoped that the outcomes of this project can achieve: (i) Effluent control by reducing or altogether eliminating auxiliaries and unexhausted dyestuff in the discharge; (ii) Rapid dyeing with reduced energy requirements; (iii) Better levelness; (iv) Better dye yield and (v) Control of fabric aesthetics.
