Trial: Sustainable Energy Shoes for Energy Harvesting Trials of Night Runners

The aim of this project is to produce prototypes of lighting shoes for night running with the sustainable energy harvesting insoles developed from previous studies. These lighting shoes include energy harvesting insoles for efficiently harvesting foot-triggered mechanical energy. In addition, external circuits will also be designed and developed for efficient storage of the harvested electricity into energy storage devices.

Application

Designed for night runners, these energy harvesting shoes have LEDs on the midsole which are powered by harvesting kinetic energy generated during running.

Industry Benefit

With the improved LEDs, these shoes protect runners by making them being more visible. It also promotes night running and to expand the market of sustainable energy shoes.

Technological Breakthrough

Unlike existing lighting shoes powered with unchangeable battery, these energy harvesting shoes are self-powered by converting kinetic energy from running to electricity to support lighting.
