Body Weight/Shape Reinforcing Health Garment for Overweight Young Females

A purposely-designed health garment with self-adjusting function will be developed using appropriate materials with various properties in order to reinforce the body weight/shape of overweight subjects undergoing weight reduction programmes. Desirable pressure generated continuously from the self-adjusting garment can help to tighten muscles/skin so as to adjust the body shape, and pressure exerted on the body can serve as a signal to remind the subjects to maintain weight control through continuation of a healthy lifestyle. The size adjustable function of the garment reduces the problem of having to change the sizes of garments resulting from weight loss while it continues to provide the effect of body shape modification. The objectives of the project are to investigate the properties and evaluate the pressure parameters of self-adjusting garments, followed by wear trials. The outcome can be utilized as a technical guide to develop new products that not only serve the functions but also improve comfort for overweight subjects. As there is currently no such garment in the market, the marketing potential of the new products can be substantial in view of the growing prevalence of overweight in adult subjects in our society.
