Innovative Wrinkle-free Finishing for Cotton Woven Fabrics

This project will focus on two types of light-weight cotton woven fabric, plain and twill (fabric weight in the range approximately 120g/m2 ~ 130g/m2) to optmise the design of wrinkle-free cotton woven fabrics with good tearing strength. This project will study the fibre performance and structural changes, as well as the yarn and fabric structure on the effect of tearing strength mechanism before and after wrinkle-free finishing. At the same time, based on the mechanism study, optimised wrinkle-free finishing method will be applied to light-weight cotton plain and twill woven fabrics. The innovative ways of this project are to: (i) study and develop the best wrinkle-free finishing process and condition with the detailed study of fibre performance and structural changes; (ii) study the relationship between wrinkle-free finishing process and condition and the tearing behaviour of the finished light-weight cotton plain and twill woven fabrics; (iii) study the structure and properties of fibre, yarn and fabric so as to develop light-weight cotton plain and twill woven fabrics with good wrinkle-free finishing effect and tearing strength. The project results could provide useful information for fabric material technologists as well as dyeing and finishing factories to develop effective wrinkle-free finishing process.
